(AP) -- Two Cape May County shore towns banned swimming on all their beaches Friday after more medical waste washed up. Avalon and Ocean City were keeping visitors out of the water and away from the wet sand at least through the afternoon. Only a day earlier, Ocean City banned swimming on part of its beach after at least two syringes were found on the sand. Earlier in the week, nearly 200 syringes washed up in Avalon, prompting the town to close some of its beaches throughout the week. (AP) -- There's been another beach closing in Cape May County due to medical waste. But Ocean City officials say the two syringes found on city beaches Thursday aren't related to needles, cotton swabs and other debris that washed up in Avalon earlier this week. As a precaution, Ocean City is keeping swimmers out of the water at one of its beaches. City business administrator Jim Rutala says the situation should be back to normal by Friday. Read more » |
