I left a bit later than I planned, but that was okay. Had plenty of orange juice, coffee, and an awesome sandwich at Scheibel's and then paddled out. It's so nice to be able to beach the boat on land where it can be stored upside down and out of the water. I'm actually getting some barnacles growing in the drainage holes in the footwells. Read more » On the PotomacWhat a warm day it was in the water. It was also suprisingly calm and flat. Almost as if the Chesapeake had decided to let me go. This past portion was as chancey with the weather and conditions as I expected. As usual, I feel lucky it wasn't worse. Last night I met two fishermen who couldn't get out, they said, for two days because of the wind and chop. Perhaps they should ditch their dingy for an outrigger canoe! My kids, Billy and Julia, are happily soaking each other with their water squirters in the lake while I sit here and type. We're lucky to live on a lake that's swimmable and clean. In so many areas of the world, kids have no access to clean water. Fortunately, leaders in the past have made conservation a priority, as that is the key to a secure future. We need to manage our resources so we can count on them being there for our future generations.
