Arrival in New Orleans

Margo ended her journey in New Orleans yesterday and was greeted by supporters at a Lake Pontchartrain beach along the University of New Orleans. NOLA Brewery even comped a half-keg of beer for the reception. Her mission is now over - well, at least the physical paddling part - that is. So she's paddled nearly 4,000 miles in the past three years - while spreading her message of the need for ocean conservation through community events and the media markets in over half of America's coastal communities so far.  Read more »

Margo scheduled to wrap up in N.O. Saturday

From Carl: Today, we're heading down to meet up with Margo again, but this time we'll be bringing her back home after she lands in New Orleans on Saturday. I just have a couple updates before we head down. Both of these roll over from from our last trip down over Mothers Day weekend:  Read more »

Mother's Day in Florida

From Carl:

We had a great weekend visiting Margo. During the four days we were down there, we had plenty of time with her and her gracious hosts and partnering colleagues. We also accompanied her on her visit with Governor Charlie Crist to get his support for the healthy ocean campaign she champions. (He had held a press conference on the following day to announce his candidacy for the US Senate, which was nice in that his announcement didn't detract from Margo's press conference on the steps of the Capitol in Tallahassee earlier that day!)  Read more »

Day 13, Margo in Sarasota

I am partnering with NRDC to paddle my outrigger canoe 1200 miles around Florida and west to New Orleans. My goal is to build support for a Healthy Oceans Act and steps to protect our oceans from global warming and ocean acidification. For those who do not know, I paddle to inform and for those who don't care, I paddle to inspire. I am documenting my journey on this blog during the month-long paddle. You can read more about the paddle, see photos, and take action here.  Read more »

Frustrating Start To Gulf Paddle

Departing last year from New Jersey to DC

Today was a no go for paddling. I don't usually let predictions of potentially bad weather stop me from going out, but this run had enough navigational issues that I figured I better think twice. So I sat it out and did some "housework" and catch up calls. Yesterday's very windy paddle started off fantastically.

Also from last year.  Read more »

Ocean City on Saturday Night

The arrival of winter, for whatever the reason, brings out the moodiness in me. Probably because it’s colder, I get out less, and have mothballed the OC1 for the season, effectively ending all forays out on the bays or ocean.  Read more »

Things are happening all over!

Now that Shore11.org is officially launched, here's my official first blog! Things green are happening all over, as more and more people realize that the security of our future generations depends on conserving our natural resources and managing them in a sustainable manner, especially our ocean resources. The desire to avert certain ocean-destruction manifests itself in some interesting personal challenges of late.  Read more »

From MD to VA

On the water Waterfront--Ridge, MD, to Colonial Beach, VA. , Colonial Beach, VA-above Fairview Beach, VA.

What an awesome first couple of days on the Potomac. I left a bit later than I planned, but that was okay. Had plenty of orange juice, coffee, and an awesome sandwich at Scheibel's and then paddled out. It's so nice to be able to beach the boat on land where it can be stored upside down and out of the water. I'm actually getting some barnacles growing in the drainage holes in the footwells.  Read more »
