Offshore Drilling Plan Unveiled

In the very last moments of his administration, George W. Bush had his Interior Secretary create an oil and gas  leasing plan for the Outer Continental Shelf waters from 2010 to 2015. Thankfully, the new Secretary of the Interior has extended the public comment period for another six months and he has added 4 public hearings. The first will be in Atlantic City. A massive turnout of people in opposition is truly needed to keep our water safe. Two simple reasons we don't need this: 1) If every drop of oil in the Outer Continental Shelf was extracted, it would only last the US 18 months. That's not really worth it. Furhermore, much of that would be exported overseas so this is really about profits, not helping America meet its energy needs. 2) What little oil is out there would not come to market for at least ten years, maybe more.

There is a Facebook page for the Cause, called Stop Offshore Drilling http://apps.facebook.com/causes/248817

What I find funny is Facebook pages promoting drilling.  This one called Start Domestic Oil Production and Oil Shale Production Today! has a whopping 17 members. http://www.facebook.com/s.php?init=q&q=OCS%20Drilling&ref=ts&sid=e16d845...
