| ![]() Bluefin Tuna Protections fail at EUAlthough French President Nicolas Sarkozy expressed support for an international trade ban for the endangered bluefin tuna back in July, when the European Union met this week, France voted the wrong way. In fact, France was the deciding vote AGAINST UN Action on the matter. Apparently the French flip-flop can be attributed to pressure from Japan. Now the Bluefin is destined to move even closer to commercial extinction.

However, strong leadership from the US may still give bluefin a shot at a CITES listing in March. President Obama and his administration must come out strongly on this issue and the public must fully engage. For more information and to get involved, go to www.savethebluefin.com.
