A 20-foot-long shark was spotted by a group of surfers out for a summer morning session at Gilgo State Park Beach in Suffolk County. Ocean City Beach Closed after Syringes FoundSubmitted by urbananglernyc on Thu, 08/28/2008 - 16:28.OCEAN CITY, N.J. (AP) -- There's been another beach closing in Cape May County due to medical waste. But Ocean City officials say the two syringes found on city beaches Thursday aren't related to needles, cotton swabs and other debris that washed up in Avalon earlier this week. As a precaution, Ocean City is keeping swimmers out of the water at one of its beaches. City business administrator Jim Rutala says the situation should be back to normal by Friday. (AP) -- Avalon continues to have problems with medical debris washing up on the beach. For the third time in four days, the Cape May County resort closed beaches Tuesday and public works crews swept the area from 14th to 22nd streets after needles, cotton swabs and other debris were found on the shore. The problem began over the weekend, forcing some beaches to be closed on Saturday and Sunday. Officials said they'll decide Wednesday morning if the affected beaches can reopen. Read more » |
